Why did you create this painting?

This is a painting of Pazundaung Creek with Shwedagon Pagoda in the background. Close to Yangon it’s called Pazundaung Creek. But its higher section is called Nga Moe Yeik. I went along that section and painted about five pictures. I think the boats are fishing boats. They’re small motor boats. I took a photo in the afternoon. I took pictures of the creek in North Dagon, Tharkayta, and Thingangyun. I wanted to paint Pazundaung Creek and Shwedagon Pagoda in the evening. I mostly paint scenery. I rarely paint figures.

Has life for you as a painter changed in the past decade?

I haven’t experienced any change in my life as an artist. I was once confronted by a teacher when I was 30. He asked what I wanted from art because I painted so much. I said I didn’t want anything. I live in a rural area, so I just want to be an ordinary painter who paints regularly. I don’t want to be famous in Myanmar or the world. But I want to make sure my paintings reach the standard of paintings done in Myanmar or the world. There aren’t any changes in my life. It’s quiet.

Has Myanmar changed in the past decade?

As the urban area is developing, there are taller buildings. But there aren’t any major changes. Pazundaung Creek is there as always. I go out every Sunday. I haven’t missed that for two and a half years. But because of Covid-19, I haven’t been out for three weeks.

သူရိန်မြိုင်

ဒီပန်းချီကားကို ဘာလို့ ရေးတာလဲ။

ပုံမှာဆွဲထားတာက ပုဇွန်တောင်ချောင်းနဲ့ သူ့နောက်ခံက ရွှေတိဂုံဘုရားပါ။ ပုဇွန်တောင်ချောင်းက ရန်ကုန်မြို့ထဲနီးလာရင် ပုဇွန်တောင်ချောင်းလို့ခေါ်ပြီး အဖျားရောက်သွားရင် ငမိုးရိပ်ချောင်းဆိုပြီး ခေါ်တယ်။ ငမိုးရိပ်ချောင်းဘက်ကို လိုက်လျှောက်ပြီးတော့ လေးငါး ခြောက်ပုံရေးဖြစ်တာဗျ။ လှေတွေက ငါးဖမ်းလှေတွေထင်ပါတယ်။ မော်တော်သေးသေးလေးတွေပေါ့။ နေ့ခင်းဘက်မှာ ဓာတ်ပုံရိုက်ပြီးမှ ရေးတာ။ မြောက်ဒဂုံဘက်က ရိုက်တယ်။ သာကေတဘက်က ရိုက်တယ်။ နောက်ဟိုဘက် သင်္ကန်းကျွန်းဘက်ကလည်းရိုက်ဖြစ်တယ်။ ပုဇွန်တောင်ချောင်းနဲ့ ရွှေတိဂုံဘုရားရဲ့ ညနေခင်းကို ရေးချင်တာပါ။ ကျနော်က ရှုခင်းပဲများများရေးတာ။ လူပုံ သိပ်မရေးဘူး။

ပြီးခဲ့တဲ့ဆယ်စုနှစ်အတွင်း ပန်းချီဆရာတစ်ယောက်အနေနဲ့ ဘဝမှာ အပြောင်းအလဲတွေရှိလား။

ပန်းချီဆရာတစ်ယောက်အနေနဲ့ ဘဝမှာ အပြောင်းအလဲမရှိပါဘူး။ ကျနော် အသက်သုံးဆယ်လောက်က ကျနော့်ဆရာတစ်ယောက်မေးဖူးတယ်။ မင်းပန်းချီ ဒီလောက်ရေးနေတာ ပန်းချီနဲ့ ပတ်သက်လို့ ဘာဖြစ်ချင်လဲတဲ့။ ကျနော်က ကျန်တာ ဘာမှ မဖြစ်ချင်ဘူး။ နယ်မှာပဲနေတာဖြစ်တဲ့အတွက် ရိုးရိုးပန်းချီဆရာ ပုံမှန်ရေးနေတဲ့ ပန်းချီဆရာပဲဖြစ်ချင်တယ်။ ကမ္ဘာလည်းမကျော်ချင်ဘူး၊ မြန်မာလည်းမကျော်ချင်ဘူး။ ဒါပေမယ့် ကိုယ့်လက်ရာအဆင့်အတန်းကိုတော့ ကမ္ဘာစံချိန်မှီအောင်၊ မြန်မာ့ စံချိန်မှီအောင် ကြိုးစားနေမယ်။ ကျနော့်ဘဝမှာ ဘာမှ အပြောင်းအလဲမရှိဘူးဗျ။ အေးအေးဆေးဆေးပဲ။

ပြီးခဲ့တဲ့ဆယ်စုနှစ်အတွင်း မြန်မာနိုင်ငံမှာ အပြောင်းအလဲတွေရှိတယ်ထင်လား။

မြို့ပြက ဖွံ့ဖြိုးလာတော့ တိုက်တွေတာတွေ ပိုမြင့်လာတာ အများကြီးရှိလာတယ်။ အများကြီးတော့ မပြောင်းလဲပါဘူး။ ပုဇွန်တောင်ချောင်းထဲတော့ ဒီလိုပါပဲ။ ကျနော်က တနင်္ဂ‌နွေနေ့တိုင်း outdoor ထွက်တယ်။ နှစ်နှစ်ခွဲလောက်ရှိပြီ တစ်ပတ်မှမပြတ်ဘူး။ အခု ကိုဗစ်ဖြစ်တာ သုံးပတ်လောက်ပြတ်သွားတယ်။
