Aung Khaing was born in a village on the outskirts of Rangoon, Burma in 1945 and
has worked as a painter and illustrator since the 1960s. In 1984, he had a searing
experience of censorship when his entire Rangoon show of 120 paintings was banned.
For many years thereafter he did not present his work for public exhibition, and his
first solo show only took place in Yangon in 2013.
