Zaw Zaw was born in Yangon in 1969 and studied painting through evening classes
at the State School of Fine Arts in Yangon, graduating in 1986. His work was first
exhibited in Myanmar in 1997. His 2015 series, The Lady, which uses text prints on
acrylic, has been shown in the United States and Hong Kong. The paintings feature
portraits of Aung San Suu Kyi created from texts of songs sung in the Burmese royal
courts, which form the basis for Burmese classical music.
