Htoo Aung Kyaw was born in Kyaukpadaung, Mandalay Region in March 1978. He
studied philosophy at Meiktila University and then, from 2000 to 2004, painting at
the State School of Fine Arts in Yangon. His abstract expressionist art is inspired by
the culture of the ancient Pyu and Bagan eras in Myanmar history. At the same time,
though, his patchwork paintings contain many contemporary themes. He lives in
Yangon and works as a full-time artist.
