Htein Lin was born in Mezaligon, Sagaing Region at the end of 1966. As a student in
Yangon in 1988, he participated in the democracy movement and then fled to a series of
border camps with the All Burma Students’ Democratic Front. Incarcerated as a political
prisoner from 1998 to 2004, he is today one of Myanmar’s leading painters, having long
led the way as a performance artist. His solo and group shows reach back over the past
20 years.
